Administering food to the child for the first time – Sowing the seed of purity in Annamaya-Kosh of the child. Performed at the age of 6 months or when a child starts eating solid food for the first time. The food is offered to Yagya Bhagvan first and then given to the child.


Annaprashan sanskar ceremony is completed once the baby is of 6 months or when a child starts eating solid food for the first time . It’s done at that age because at that period the child gains the strength to digest the cereals and rice. In some special cases, wherever the kid is found to be very weak,the time may be delayed further  more.It is often done in even months for boys and odd months for girls.    Mantras are recited and oblations are offered to the varied deities.”

Importance and Significance of Annaprashan Shanskar

The aim of this sanskar a is sowing the seeds of purity in Annamaya Kosh of the child and is performed for healthy growth and strength of the body. It teaches the importance of piousness of Anna. Scriptures say, “Aahar shudhou satvashudhihi” meaning if you eat pious food your mind will be pious. Food is not for the taste but for healthy growth of the mind.

The age is a vital facet to be looked into. This Puja has to be done between the ages of six to seven. If performed earlier, his body may not be able to digest it and delaying it an excessive amount of may affect the health of the kid.
